Obituary of William Harapiak

Harapiak, William (Bill) Korean War Veteran, passed away peacefully at the Hamilton General Hospital on Friday July 22, 2011. In his 81st year, William “Bill” Harapiak, the beloved husband of Ethel Harapiak (nee Wansel) for over fifty-seven years. Loving father of Debra Lyttle, Darlene Gunther and David Harapiak (Joanne). Loving Grandpa of Liam. Dear brother of Nick (Kay), Terry,and Michael (Mary). Fondly remembered by his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brother John and sister Ann. Bill served in the Canadian Armed Forces during the Korean War. “Happy Jack” worked as Superintendent of General Motors retiring with fifty years of credited service. He served as a volunteer to many organizations, coaching sports, working with St. Vincent de Paul, the Ozanam Centre Kitchen and serving his fellow veterans. He loved to bowl, golf and play soft ball and considered umpiring his second career. Friends may call at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Tuesday July 26, 2011 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Funeral prayers will be held in the funeral home chapel on Wednesday July 27, 2011 at 11am. Interment following cremation in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. 24 and Korean War Veterans are requested to attend a memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday July 26, 2011 at 6:45pm. Memorial donations to either the St. Catharines General Hospital Foundation towards the building fund or the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
