We're proud to introduce members of the professional team who are privileged to serve you at Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel.
President & Managing Director
A St. Catharines native and graduate of West Park Secondary School, Bryce Giroux began his funeral service career in 2012. Having completed his observation period right here at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, he entered the funeral service program at Humber College from where he graduated in 2014. In the years since he left Humber, Bryce has held progressively responsible positions with funeral homes in Toronto and here in the Niagara Region, as a funeral director.
Beyond his demanding professional responsibilities and ongoing development of his own skills, he has also been active in community outreach, organizing charitable events. Over the years he has also volunteered his time with various sports associations including the Niagara Football Association and Concord Soccer Club, as well as Habitat for Humanity.
A significant part of Bryce’s career has been his focus on the role of introducing, encouraging and mentoring young people interested in a career in funeral service. He has also served his profession in a volunteer capacity, sitting on the Board of Directors of the Niagara District Funeral Service Association.
In September 2020, Bryce Giroux achieved a career goal, becoming the owner/manager of the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel in downtown St. Catharines, allowing him to serve his home town from his own business.
Funeral Director & Preplanning Specialist
As a former developmental services worker, Erin Freeman was no stranger to care and compassion as professional attributes when she entered the funeral service profession in 2010. After graduating from the Funeral Service Education program at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Erin completed her professional apprenticeship and received her license in Alberta in 2012.
Born and raised in St. Catharines, she has deep roots in the community stretching back three generations and the call of home was strong enough to bring her back to southern Ontario where she has worked as a Funeral Director since 2013. Given the demands of her profession she is, wisely, a dedicated advocate for self-care which she models through the practice of yoga and time spent outdoors with her rescue dog Eddie.
Active in both her profession and her community, Erin has served two terms on the Niagara District Funeral Service Association board and walks in charity fashion shows in the Niagara region.
Bill & Donna Brown
For more than a decade, Bill and Donna Brown have dedicated themselves to serving the families of the St. Catharines region as owners and managers of the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel. They have earned a reputation for caring, compassionate service with a personal touch.
A career funeral director, Bill has been the Managing Director of the funeral home while Donna oversaw the administrative side of the business. Capping a career that took the couple to Mississauga, Brampton, Toronto and Owen Sound, in 2008 they purchased the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, proudly returning the old firm to its family business roots.
As they move toward a richly deserved retirement, the Browns are delighted to have found an equally dedicated young funeral professional, in Bryce Giroux - who started his professional journey with their firm - to take the reins.
We are extremely pleased and grateful that Bill and Donna have agreed to continue with us, for a time, in a support role to ensure a smooth transition for the new Owner/Manager and, especially, for those who rely on Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel at times of loss.
