Obituary of Harold Martin

HAROLD ANTHONY MARTIN - With profound sadness we announce the passing of Harold Anthony Martin in his 98th year. Married 67 years, Harold was the soulmate and best friend of Kathleen Mary (Stockwell). Beloved father of eight “only” children, Anne (Richard) Hildebrandt, Tony (Colleen), Alf (JoAnne), Patricia (Jorge) DeMaria, Joe (Helen), Casey (Michael) Jones, Mike (Betty Anne), and Jackie (George) Henry. Sadly missed by his grandchildren, Matthew, Sarah, Erich, Jeff (Tracy), Greg, Christopher, Jamie (Jen), Michael (Jenn), David, Patrick, Rachel, Jenny, Jake, Nik, Joe (Allison), George, Hattie (Scott), Ben and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Abby. Harold was one of 11 children and is survived by his sister, Evelyn Haslan of Toronto. He was loved and cherished by his many nieces and nephews. Harold served in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII. He was an employee of General Motors for 37 years, retiring in 1980. An avid bowler, Harold played the sport for more than 65 years, most recently in the Men’s Retiree League at Parkway Lanes, where he maintained an average of 160 almost to the end. He held a career high Triple of 597. Famous for his bear hugs and iron grip handshakes, he was happiest doing something for others. He was the best of men. A Mass to celebrate his life will be held in St. Denis Church, which he attended for more than 45 years, on Saturday March 12th at 1 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the hospital building fund for the Niagara Health System or any charity of your choice. A doer of good deeds, he would be pleased to see this continue.
