Obituary of Irma Confiant

With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of Irma at home, surrounded by her large and loving family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. In her 81st year, Irma Confiant (nee MacAulay), beloved wife of the late Frank, the love of her life for 59 years, the loving Mother of Francine Geikie (David), Nancy Taylor (Grant), Linda Jones, John (Darla), Joe and Spring Gilroy (Scott). She was the dearly loved grandma of 17 and great-grandma of 10. Dear sister of Ron MacAuley (Pat) and was predeceased by 6 siblings. She will be sadly missed by all. After raising her family Irma will be remembered as the cafeteria manager at West Park High School, a job she held for the next 23 years. Mom’s passions were her family, the times her large and boisterous crew were together and her casino trips. She was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption CWL and she and Dad were members of St. Mary’s Parish for over 45 years as they raised their family in the west end. They sold their home and relocated to St. Julia’s Parish. The family would like to thank Dr. Elaine O’Reilly, Dr. Brian Kerley, CCAC and Monsignor Pizzacalla who came on a moment’s notice. We cannot express enough heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Jan Duncan-Kalen (Paramed) who nursed our Mother with the utmost care, gentleness and respect and was a great source of support to our family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Hospice Niagara Stabler Center or the Canadian Cancer Society, Niagara Branch. As per Mom’s final wishes interment in her beloved Cape Breton will take place at a later date. Online condolences would be appreciated by the family and may be made at www.
