Obituary of Ena Paul

PAUL, Ena (nee Bingle) – December 25, 1915 – May 14, 2010 – Beloved mother of Maureen Paul of Toronto, and Jeanette Paul of Longueuil, Quebec, and dear sister of Alfreda Jeffries of Grimsby. Predeceased by her parents Mary (Furler) and Alfred Bingle; her husband of 58 years, Cameron Paul; her son James (Jim) Paul of Kelowna, B.C.; and her brother George Bingle and sister-in-law Ferne (Nevills) of Beamsville. Ena will be greatly missed by brother-in-law Stuart Jeffries, Kathy Sauder, Serge Brossoit, nephews Dean, Paul and Dwight, nieces Rhonda and Catharine, great nephews, great nieces, and by her many dear friends. Ena was descended from the earliest settlers in Niagara, who were United Empire Loyalists. Born and raised on a farm above the escarpment at Grimsby, she was quite a Christmas present, being the first Bingle girl born in 60 years. After attending Alway, the one-room public school where she later taught, Ena attended Grimsby High School, walking three miles each way, up and down the mountain. She graduated with first class standing from Hamilton Normal School in 1936 and taught for the next twelve years in Grimsby, Thorold South, Beaverdams, Hamilton, and Edinburgh, Scotland. After she married Cam in 1948, they lived in Edmonton for one year then moved to St. Catharines, where they raised their three children. Ena lived on a quiet street in the family home for over 48 years and remained friendly with valued neighbours throughout her life. Since 1999, Ena resided at Anchor Pointe Retirement Residence as a charter member, where she enjoyed new experiences and met many wonderful new friends, both residents and staff. At the age of 94, Ena died peacefully with family by her side in St. Catharines General Hospital. She will always be remembered for her warm friendliness to all, her wonderful smile and her kind and gentle ways. Such a gracious, cheerful person will be sadly missed. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service celebratiing Ena’s life will be held at PATRICK J. DARTE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 39 Court Street, St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Tuesday, May 25 at 2:00 p.m., conducted by Pastor David Jantzi and the Reverend Canon Wendy Roy. Visitation 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Interment to follow at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church Cemetery, Grimsby. In memory of Ena, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
