Obituary of Paul Garner

Garner, Paul ~ Peacefully at the Welland County General Hospital on Tuesday January 19, 2010. In his 82nd year, Paul Joseph Garner, beloved son of the late Francis Garner and his late wife Irene Agnes (nee Purdy). Cherished uncle to his many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Dear brother-in-law of William Clifford. Predeceased by four sisters Kathryn Garner, Margot (Donald Beggs), Helen (Robert Dockstader), Agnes (William Clifford) and by two brothers George (Betty) and William (Jean). Paul was a graduate of the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto, Gold Medal Winner for Piano performance, Paul studied on scholarship in London, England at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts and had a career in acting and modelling. He developed artists’ repertoires for Deca Records classical music collections. The bulk of his working career was in the opera world, including many years working for Richard Bonynge and Joan Sutherland. Subsequently, Paul worked for 26 years as private secretary/manager to Placido Domingo. Following a long career abroad, Paul retired to his hometown St. Catharines two years ago. Friends are invited to a service at the Look Out Ridge Retirement Lodge, 1505 Lookout St., Fonthill on Saturday January 30, 2010 at 10am. Interment in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family (and may be made by calling Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel 905-685-6584).
