Lucille Forgeron

Obituary of Lucille Forgeron

FORGERON, Lucille It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Lucille on Wednesday July 5, 2023 at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Young-at-heart at 91 years of age. Loving wife of Valma for 73 wonderful years – Val’s “perfect” wife. Daughter of the late Violet and James Boudreau. Beloved mother of Kenneth (the late Sharon), the late Mark (Lynn), Stephen and Nicole (Chris). Dearest Nana of Luc (Laura), Maggie, Bailey (Rachael), Shaw (Katie), Claire, Alec (Kristine), Andy (Jessica), Steven, and two great-grandchildren, Gigi and Ellie. Lucille is survived by her two dear sisters, Therese (the late Romeo) and Almira (the late Jimmy), as well as her ‘like-a-sister’ cousin, Elizabeth. Pre-deceased by her brother Carl (the late Loretta). Aunt or cousin to many family members in Ontario, Alberta, B.C., across the Maritimes and Boston. Lucille was born in Little Anse, Petit-de-Grat, Cape Breton, where she lived until relocating to Ontario as a new mother and young wife. Over the years as her family grew, she built a life filled with purpose, actively involved in her church community and the CWL, deeply committed to her Catholic faith, helping whomever and whenever she could, regularly offering prayers for everyone in need. She loved going to dances with Val and taking their kids to the dairy for ice cream on Sundays. A friend to many, particularly through her time working at K-Mart and later volunteering at Hotel Dieu Hospital, Out of the Cold, Chez Marie and the Catholic Women’s League, she always had a ready smile and a kind word to offer. Lucille attended Curves gym for years until Covid-19 prevented it, making dear friends there as well. Lucille was never short on ambition – the number of times she painted and wallpapered their home from top to bottom is just one example. Everything she did was meticulous. She lived her life with style – in fashion and in every other way. As a child, despite living by the water, she did not learn to swim. That was just one of so many challenges she took on in her adult life, which also included bike-riding, cross-country skiing, tennis, kickboxing and even training for and participating in the Run for the Grapes! She skated as a child, later with Val, then with her children and their children in turn, still skating this year. She loved family hikes. She was inspired to always challenge herself and was an inspiration herself to those around her. She would do anything for her children (everyone’s mending!) and just about anything with them, treasuring all of it. She remembered and celebrated every family birthday and occasion, always taking joy in having the family home to share celebrations together, always a loving wave at the door as they left. The love and pride of her children was paramount in her life and that was true for her grandchildren as well. Nana’s home was their home in their hearts, where they always found the “coziest ever” guestroom, never had to make the bed, great hugs, the softest hands, lots of great food (lobster dinners were everyone’s favorite and Nana’s soup was always the best), deep interest in their lives, respect for their individuality, excitement for their dreams and accomplishments, a gentle and loving force that grounded their parents and therefore them. Lucille was the rock and heart of her family. Cherished in life and in death, she will remain in our hearts always. As per her wishes, cremation has taken place. Lucille’s life will be remembered on Thursday July 20th at a visitation at Garden City Funerals, 39 Court St., St. Catharines between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Her life will be celebrated in a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 21st at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 169 St. Paul St., St. Catharines. All are welcome to the interment at Pleasantview Cemetery, 2250 RR 20, Fonthill ON L0S 1E6. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Walker Family Cancer Centre would be appreciated. Online condolences may be shared at www.gardencityfunerals.ca
