Obituary of Bernadette Collins

COLLINS, BERNADETTE MARY (nee: Newman) Passed away peacefully on February 3, 2017 in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late William Collins, dear step-mother of Larry (Anne) Collins, cherished grandmother of David (Soleil) and Benjamin (Meaghan) Collins and great-grandmother of Beatrice and Ryan. Aunt Bernie will be sadly missed by her many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews. Also by her sister-in-law Laura Newman of Listowel. She will also be fondly remembered by long-time friend Barb Wilson of Winnipeg. Bernadette was predeceased by three brothers, Jack of St Catharines and Charles of Listowel, Joseph of St Catharines as well her sister Loretta of St Catharines. Bernadette was a long-time member of the St Thomas Aquinas Parish in St Catharines and as well a valued member of the Catholic Women’s League (40 years) and the Society of St Vincent de Paul. In August of 2003 Bernadette was presented with the prestigious Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice medal, also known as the” Decoration of Honour” awarded for distinguished service to the church. Bernadette was also a long term valued employee of the St Catharines Credit Bureau. Friends may call at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel (39 Court Street, St Catharines) on Tuesday February 7th from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Vigil prayers will be celebrated at the funeral home Tuesday evening. Funeral Liturgy to be celebrated at St Thomas Aquinas Roman Catholic Church (316 Queenston Street) on Wednesday February 8th at 10 a.m. Rite of Committal at Pleasantview Cemetery with reception to follow. Bernadette’s family wish to thank the wonderful and caring people at Tabor Manor, where she resided for the past two years.
