Obituary of Leokadia Kuriata

Kuriata, Lucy (Leokadia) Peacefully and surrounded by her family at the St. Catharines General Hospital on Thursday June 11, 2009. In her 83rd year, “Lucy” Leokadia Kuriata (nee Walicka), beloved wife of the late Walter Kuriata. Loving mother of John Kuriata (Kathy),Regina (Ross Brown) and Stan Kuriata (Janet). Loved grandmother of Jonathan, Christopher, Amy, Nathan, Vanessa, Michael, Kristy, Matthew and five beloved great grandchildren. Lucy was born in Poland, she was forcefully deported to Siberia when Russia invaded. She survived the labour camps but lost her mother and many friends during the horrific evacuation from Siberia to Palestine. Lucy arrived in Canada in 1949, Walter and Lucy raised their family and finally found peace. She retired as a dietary aid at the General Hospital and enjoyed travelling widely and growing her garden. Our heartfelt thanks to Dr. Luce and Dr. Gruber for their efforts. The nurses and staff were a great comfort. Lucy could not have been in better hands. Friends may call at the Patrick J. Darte Funeral Chapel, 39 Court St., St. Catharines (905-685-6584) on Sunday , June 14 , 2009 from 2 to 4pm and 7 to 9pm. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 5 Oblate St., St. Catharines on Monday June 15, 2009 at 10:30am. Rites of Committal in Victoria Lawn Cemetery. Vigil will be held at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon at 3pm. Memorial donations to the St. Catharines General Building Fund would be appreciated by the family. “to everything there is a season, a time to be born and a time to die”
