Obituary of Carl Yeager

Yeager, Carl On Saturday May 9th, 2009, after a courageous and valiant struggle, In his 74th year, Carl S. Yeager, passed away at the St. Catharines General Hospital. Carl lost his battle with a rare neurological disease , with his loving wife Lore (nee Dyck) at his side. Lovingly remembered by his children Debby (Jordon),Dwayne (Judi), Susan (Diane) and Veronica (Ron) and his grandchildren Kathleen, Laura, Conor, Allyson, Jillian, Chelsea, Alexandra and Erin. Predeceased September 8, 1979 by his son Stuart. Carl was born in 1936 near Windsor. The family moved to St. Catharines where Carl attended Robertson Public School, Victoria and St. Catharines Collegiate. It was during this time that Carl began his lifelong love and pursuit of sports. He was a prominent athlete who excelled in hockey, baseball and basketball, setting numerous scoring records in the local church league. Carl continued his love of sports into his sixties, playing Old-timers hockey with the Shipman Corners hockey team. He coached all-star teams in both hockey and softball with the Grantham Optimist and St. Catharines Fastball leagues. Carl enjoyed refereeing for many years, officiating both youth and adult leagues with the St. Catharines Referees Association. In the professional arena Carl’s passion was teaching. He was the Technical Trades Coordinator at Niagara College for 34 years, retiring from fulltime teaching in 2001. In addition he taught night school programs at Sheridan, Humber and Mohawk colleges, where he left his legacy instructing machinists and Tool and Die Makers. He was instrumental in forging apprenticeship training alliances with General Motors and many local industries. Always kind, positive and possessing a great sense of humour he motivated his students to strive for their personal best. The family would like to thank Dr. Kanungo and the 6th floor nursing staff at St.Catharines General for their kindness and support. A celebration of Carl’s life will he held at Christ’s Lutheran Church, 140 Russell Avenue, St. Catharines on Thursday May 14th at 11am. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Alzheimers’ Society would be appreciated by the family (and may be made by calling Patrick J.
